Film and Literature

With the educational background that I have, I feel reasonably confident as an amateur film and book critic.

I’ve been meaning to get back to the cinema for weeks, and sadly have already missed a few films I had planned on reviewing. After my summer travels are over I plan to make this a much higher priority. My film reviews can be found here.

I’m currently reading two books. Well, reading one and listening to another. I’m reading Natasha’s Dance: A Cultural History of Russia by Orlando Figes as part of ongoing research for my own writing project that I’m currently outlining. I’m listening to (mainly on my lunch break, while I also knit) A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. Second in a series of three books, it’s entertaining tv-for-your-brain type fare, but pleasantly dark. The heroine is surprisingly un-Bella Swann-like even in her most waifish, damsel in distress moments. With more than a few actually frightening characters balanced with plenty of steamy (always consensual) romps sprinkled in, it’s a nice easy read/listen and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
